EXPO 2010 : Shanghai Dream Cube Pavilion

Shanghai Corporate Pavilion construction has recently been finished. Millions of LED lights cover the exterior of the pavilion, which is made from recycled materials, such as used CD covers.

The entire facade of the building is covered in an LED array that can be changed on a whim, but — and here’s where it gets cool — the lighting scheme is determined by people interacting inside the building. Computers aren’t controlling the lighting, people are with their actions, like waving their arms and clapping their hands!

While Shanghai is counting down till the grand Expo 2010 opening, I would like to introduce you with some of the highlight buildings of the organization. I have just returned from a 8 day trip from Shanghai, and despite my begging for hours in front of the Expo entrance, I was refused to let in before the opening which is 1st May 2010. I am hoping to get a chance to see this spectacular organization before its ends.

Well, there are many amazing designs to mention in this years Expo, but there are buildings and there are ”BUILDINGS” čÖé

So here is the Shanghai Dream Cube pavilion, that goes beyond architecture and introduces us to the world of humanistic technology.

The Prints Of David Lynch

David Lynch has been a painter long ago, and the idea of ”wanting the paintings to move” carried him into film industry. The irregularity of his movie plots come from the dream/nightmare visions. Being a fan of┬á ”Strange”┬á David Lynch movies, I, personally,am very excited to see this exhibition in Istanbul.

Shanghai World Expo 2010- Turkey Pavilion

”The Turkey Pavilion unveiled its design and its theme “The Cradle of Civilization” was inspired by one of the first known settlements in the world.

The main inspiration for the exterior of the 2,000-square-meter rented pavilion was also derived from settlements called “Catalhoyuk” in Turkish, which were the center of advanced culture in the Neolithic period.

The pavilion looks like an amazing red and beige box with an animal sculpture, inviting visitors to explore a maze of dreams.

The first section of the pavilion will take visitors through a journey of time to learn about Turkey’s historical firsts. A map indicating the ancient sites of Turkey, the world’s first mirror and the world’s first man-built dam will be featured here.

Istanbul’s infrastructure will also be introduced.

In the middle section, a 360-degree movie will display scenes from the streets of Istanbul to reflect the pride of the city as the European Capital of Culture.

Visitors will then encounter the future in the final section, which is represented by a symbolic figure of the phoenix, a mythical bird which dies in flames and is reborn from the ashes, to embody aspirations for the future.”

Ventura Lambrate,Milan exhibition space winners

Does the material decide the function of an object? Or is it the function which decides what material to wear?

The artist creates an alternative reality into food by covering them with foil. Therefore they create hardware out of food, and food out of construction materials.

” Our proposal for the Ventura Lambrate space is to exhibit the results of a group metal casting project entitled, Copy Nature.”

”The dominant colors in the exhibition plan are the three important materials to the casting process: red oil sand, plaster, and wax. We believe introducing materials straight from the Eindhoven foundry will lend authenticity to the rough and industrial vision for the location.”
